WhatsApp has once again tested third-party chats, a feature that will be rolling out soon January 24, 2024by billy16 WhatsApp's third-party chat monitoring was revealed last year under the European Union's Digital Markets Act (DMA). This feature mainly allows interactions for Sites with third-party applications. The latest beta update of WhatsApp for iOS brings this feature in testing after it was spotted in the Android beta a few months ago. Third party chats on WhatsApp This feature was spotted by WABetaInfo in the WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.2.10.72 update, which is available for download from the TestFlight app.
In the screenshot below, we can see Fax Lists that there is a separate folder for "Third Party Chats" at the top. It is likely that we will find chat with other applications under this folder. It is not yet clear how exactly this feature will work and which apps are allowed. Once the feature rolls out, it will allow WhatsApp users to chat with people across multiple messaging platforms directly from the app. It works the same way for others to message people on WhatsApp without creating an account. We don't know much about this feature, but it has been confirmed that WhatsApp is working on it for both Android and iOS devices.
However, distribution may be limited to the European Union, as this feature is a consequence of compliance with the Act. By law, WhatsApp must ensure interoperability with other apps as it is considered a "gatekeeper" platform. WhatsApp has until March 2024 to enable this feature for users in the EU. WhatsApp is built on end-to-end encryption and it does not allow any cross functionality with other apps. This is one of Meta's programs that is kept separate from other sibling services. So with cross-platform messaging, it will be interesting to see how Meta does it. Original article
